Psychotherapy at Centre Health in Val Caron

For your mind, your relationships, and your well-being.

What is Psychotherapy?

At Centre Health in Val Caron, our registered psychotherapists provide a safe, compassionate space to help you navigate life’s challenges — from stress, anxiety, and burnout to grief, trauma, relationship struggles, and major life transitions.

Psychotherapy uses evidence-based talk-therapy techniques to help you better understand your emotions, patterns, and behaviours so you can move forward with clarity, confidence, and peace of mind.

Whether you’re seeking help for yourself, your relationship, or your family, psychotherapy supports mental health in the same way nutrition, exercise, and sleep support physical health — as a vital part of total wellness.

Your Individualized Treatment Plan

Your first session is a conversation — not an interrogation. We’ll start by getting to know you: what’s been happening, what you’re struggling with, and what you hope to change. Together, you and your therapist will identify goals and create a plan that feels realistic, supportive, and sustainable.

Therapy may include:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) — learning to reframe thoughts and behaviours
  • Emotion-Focused or Mindfulness-Based approaches — improving self-awareness and coping
  • Relationship and communication skills training
  • Stress management, boundary setting, and self-compassion strategies
  • Trauma-informed care for past or ongoing emotional pain
  • Support through motherhood, menopause, grief, or major life changes

Our psychotherapists work collaboratively with our broader clinical team — including naturopathic doctors, chiropractors, and massage therapists — to support your whole-person health when appropriate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your first appointment is about getting comfortable. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, your personal goals, and what you hope to gain. Your therapist may ask about relevant background (health, relationships, stressors, coping habits), but only at a pace that feels right to you. Together, you’ll decide on next steps and a frequency of sessions that works best.

For most people, weekly or bi-weekly sessions help build momentum and trust. As you start to feel more confident and resilient, you may space sessions farther apart.

A registered psychotherapist (RP) provides talk therapy to support emotional, mental, and behavioural health. A psychologist may perform psychological assessments and therapy, while a psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can prescribe medication. At Centre Health, our RPs focus on therapeutic support and collaborate with your broader healthcare team as needed.

Most extended health plans cover services provided by a registered psychotherapist (RP). We offer direct billing where possible — or provide receipts for easy submission.

No referral is required. You can book directly with one of our registered psychotherapists at any time.
